Selflessness in a World of Singularity

It is no secret that our culture focuses on the individual, the me. Society encourages an egotistical approach to life. We are expected to view ourselves as the only individuals who are of any real value. Other people are really only a means to whatever end we view as the most beneficial to us at any given moment. We pass up opportunities to help people simply because it is not convenient, or it does not seem to present any immediate reward for us. Friends, this should not be so!        The church is called to be the hands and feet of Christ, reaching out, helping, supporting, caring for and loving others. All too often, however, we fall into the trap of singularity. We know that we are supposed to help them, but the feeling of individuality within us often convinces us that it is not worth our time or effort to help. What is worse, we have even, in some ways, conditioned our minds to not even notice the needs of tho...

Courage: The Strength We Don't Have

Deuteronomy 31:6 " Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."             What is courage? Courage can be defined as The strength that God gives to us, so that we can endure any trouble or difficulty that we encounter. Courage is such an under-appreciated concept. Many would consider courage a character trait, I would rather think of it as a gift from our loving God.             Whether you're a believer in Jesus Christ, or not, no one can deny that, in short, this life is hard. Thousands of discouragements come up daily, we have the constant temptation to just give into the weakness that is inevitable. We, as humans, don't like weakness; we want to be strong and noticed by all. But when the issues of lif...

Forgiveness: A Christian's Business Card

What is forgiveness? Forgiveness is responding to offenders so that the power of God’s love through me can heal them.  Therefore, in order for God’s love to heal them through us, we need to be full of God’s loving forgiveness right?             Now, the title of this post may seem a little weird to you, because, well, everyone forgives people don’t they? Well, sort of. People will say, “I forgive you” but often times that’s as deep as it goes, and they just hold the grudge for as long as is convenient for them. Forgiving someone means that you let your anger towards them slip out of your mind. I use the analogy of a business card for a reason. First of all, it seems that you never run out of business cards, likewise we should never “run out” of forgiveness. Secondly, a business card is different for every business so the Christians, by forgiving, truly forgiving, are giving a bu...
